Transfers & A.S.T.
As you transfer into the College of Education, the most important piece to the puzzle is your academic history. Your earned course credit and awarded degrees can impact your Academic Pathway. It is vital that the Middle Tennessee State University Undergraduate Admissions Office has a chance to review ALL of your previous transcripts, preferably before you make an advising appointment.
To stay on track with the incoming student process, visit our New Students page.
For a better understanding of how to read your academic history, please see the following information:
What does ELLD or ELUD represent on my academic history?
After your previous transcripts are processed, you may find some courses marked as ELLD or ELUD in your DegreeWorks degree audit (found through your PipelineMT account) under Additional Courses.
- “EL-” stands for elective course credit, indicating that a course on your academic record did not transfer as an exact match for an MTSU course offering and is not satisfying any degree requirements.
- “-LD” means an elective that is credited as “lower division,” populating as a 1000-2000 level undergraduate course.
- “-UD” means an elective that is credited as “upper division,” populating as a 3000-4000 level undergraduate course.
What if a course is not applying to my major?
Review your DegreeWorks (found through your PipelineMT account), and note any credits listed under Additional Courses. If a course has populated there after your transcript processed, it is not currently satisfying any degree requirements. If you think it should, reach out to your Academic Advisor, and we can discuss potential equivalencies.
Is there somewhere I can look to see how my courses will transfer to MTSU?
If you are still applying or waiting to be admitted, you can check the catalog of MTSU Transfer Equivalencies.
Once you’ve been admitted and have ensured that the Admissions Office has received your most recent transcript, review your DegreeWorks degree audit (found through your PipelineMT account) to view how your records have been processed according to your MTSU degree pathway.

Students who transfer with an Associate of Science (A.S.) or Associate of Arts (A.A.) will work with their Academic Advisor to evaluate potential transfer equivalencies from their transcript and create a personalized Academic Plan for completion of their outstanding degree requirements.
If you have an associate’s degree, you will have completed your General Education requirements, and you can check your DegreeWorks audit after admission to assess degree progress.

The Tennessee Transfer Pathway, 2+2 Degree program is a structured transfer pathway specifically designed for students earning an Associate of Science in Teaching (A.S.T.) degree from one of twelve Tennessee community colleges. This pathway ensures a smooth transition into a four-year teacher preparation program, allowing students to complete the remaining two years of a bachelor’s degree with minimal loss of credits or repetition of coursework.
Students who transfer with an A.S.T. will work with their Academic Advisor to confirm their transfer equivalencies and follow the pathway to complete their outstanding degree requirements.
When you transfer with an A.S.T., you enter as a junior with a solid foundation in education-focused courses, and you can check your DegreeWorks audit after admission to assess degree progress. You are typically on track to apply for the Admission to Teacher Education program upon or shortly after admission to the university, assuming GPA and testing requirements are met.
